Mass Effect 3 Available for PSN Pre-Order Today With Exclusive Bonuses

Feb 21 2012 08:20 PM | Da Ill One in Sony

It’s been one week since our Mass Effect 3 demo became available and everyone at BioWare is incredibly pleased with the response. If you haven’t already checked out our single-player and multiplayer demos (the latter is completely spoiler free and a bit addicting!), I suggest you try them to see what all the fuss is about. Our development team worked hard to ensure that Mass Effect 3 is available at the same time for PS3 as it is for other platforms, a development milestone we’re happy to celebrate with the PlayStation community!

Today, I want to let you know about an exclusive offer for anyone who pre-orders Mass Effect 3 via the PlayStation Network. When the PlayStation Store updates later this afternoon, you’ll be able to pre-order to download a digital copy of the game (available 3/6 in the US) and receive the M55 Argus rifle to complement your in-game experience.

The Argus is a high-powered rifle and an excellent close-range weapon. Its bursts of fire ensure ammunition conservation during lengthy conflicts. Law-enforcement agencies across the Mass Effect galaxy are adopting the Argus as their standard rifle, as much for its intimidation factor as its suppression power.

Along with that in-game bonus weapon, Sony Computer Entertainment America and BioWare would like to offer you a special Mass Effect 3 PS3 theme—only available for digital pre-orders. Once the game has launched, these offers will no longer be available, so if you haven’t done so already, secure your copy of Mass Effect 3 later today when the PlayStation Store updates and prepare for the Reaper invasion!

Five great gaming soundtracks

Feb 18 2012 12:57 PM | Smokey-Smokerson in Blogs & Editorials

Soundtracks in games have evolved with systems. Long gone are the days of 16-bit midi files as we are now treated to all manor of quality soundtracks. For me, the music can make a game even greater, or can even make a bad game seem not too bad. Listed below I have selected a handful of tracks that have enhanced my experience over since games have been on disc format.

1. Shenmue - Main Theme

2. Final Fantasy VII Aerith's Theme

3. Mirrors Edge - Main Theme

4. Metal Gear Solid - The Best Is Yet To Come

Heavy Rain - Redemption

These just scratch the surface on some of my personal favourites. Let us know below what inspirational songs you adore, post videos and share the love for gamings great, and somewhat underrated, music scene.

Gears of War 3 DLC revealed

Feb 17 2012 08:15 PM | Smokey-Smokerson in Microsoft

Epic Games have revealed that Gears of War 3 will receive the 'Forces of Nature' DLC on March 27th.

Five maps will be available in the pack of which three will host a natural disaster, as described by the title. The remaining two maps are made up of Raven Down, from the original and Jacinto from Gears of War 2.

A full description of each map is listed below.

•Aftermath: A government park after a tsunami. There is seaweed and wreckage everywhere, and the main play space sits under a huge cargo ship which was deposited on top of a building during the storm. The area floods and quakes during gameplay, as the whole thing is teetering on the edge of falling into the water below. This has gameplay implications as it is difficult to aim during the quakes, and difficult to be stealthy while splashing through the water.

•Artillery : Starts out looking like an ordinary military base, but during gameplay a storm kicks up. Lightning begins to flash on the horizon and eventually a tornado develops and sweeps near the play space. Dust and debris are kicked up making it difficult to see, and the buffeting winds can mask your approach.

•Cove: A is a small port that the Stranded have taken over and turned into a little village. The map is very open with long lines of sight, but there is a really, really heavy layer of fog that masks just about everything. There's a really nice sniper nest inside a central ship, but the sniper's form is silhouetted by the low angle light shining through the fog.

•Jacinto: It was a beautiful city, but huge stalks have popped up through the buildings and flooded the entire area with Imulsion. Half of the map is dead and crumbling, with Imulsion fumes hanging in the air. To make matters worse, the drizzle that is present when a match begins quickly develops into a heavy rain storm that impedes visibility and lines of sight as water starts sheeting off the buildings.

•Raven Down: A very small crossroads that is blanketed in a blinding snow storm. A Raven helicopter has crashed in the storm, and crashed through an elevated train on its way down, so there's train wreckage to deal with as well. The snowstorm ebbs occasionally, but is more often so heavy that it's difficult to see more than a few meters ahead at any given time.
Fergusson also revealed that the DLC will include four weapons hidden in the maps called "Elemental Cleavers". He provided an example by describing the "snow cleaver", which sends an icy gust at the enemy that stuns them. The "emulsion cleaver" explodes on impact and does a small amount burn damage to nearby enemies. Achievements have been tied to these new weapons.

Although no price has yet been announced, those of you with a season pass will receive the DLC pack for free.

Tekken 3D no show at GAME

Feb 17 2012 07:39 PM | Smokey-Smokerson in Nintendo

The first Tekken title to hit the Nintendo 3DS is currently not being stocked by struugling UK retailer GAME.

Speaking to Eutogamer, GAME confirmed that Tekken 3D Prime Edition will not be in stock online or instore, citing that Nintendo were at fault for slow distribution.

A spokesperson for GAME said; "There is lots happening in our stores and online this weekend. We have exciting new releases including UFC Undisputed 3, and some great half term deals including £50 off Kinect and big reductions on chart-topping EA titles.

"The exception is Tekken for 3DS, which is not in stock, and we have apologised to any customers this has affected."

With Tekken 3D hitting stores and online retailers elsewhere today, GAME's reasoning for the delay have come under scrutiny in light of severe financial issues which rumours have led to believe that the company cannot afford to stock new releases.
